A Great First Week!

Knights,
We have had a great opening week of school!  Our newest knights are settling in and they transitioning between classes like veterans.

Here are a couple of reminders:
  • Open House is scheduled for September 4th, from 6:00 - 7:30.  After Open House, there will be a PTO meeting to elect new officers, to propose the budget, and to present the 2014 performance of KLMS in the State accountability system.  I will explain how the system works and review our performance, explain distinctions and how we performed, and talk about our initiatives this year.
  • Hollywood Knights, the 6th grade dance, is scheduled for September 26th.  Please see the information on the home page and consider volunteering.
  • We know the traffic has been difficult this first week; it will get better in the weeks ahead.  We want to thank all of the parents that have demonstrated patience, even when there was reason to be frustrated.
  • The gates are locked in the morning between 7:35 and 8:05; this time frame is when our students are most likely to be walking to school and we want to maintain safe passage.  The gates along the side of KLMS reopen after our students are safely in school to allow ease of transportation for the HHS routes.  The gate to the back parking lot does not reopen during the school day.  On occasion, we will need to briefly open gates during the morning arrival for a bus due to traffic; please do not enter behind the buses.
  • A gentle reminder that school zones are no cell phone zones.  This regulation helps to make is safer for everyone.
  • We will have a Veteran's Day program on November 11th.  More details will follow, but please consider any Veterans in your family that would like to attend so we may honor their service and sacrifice.  We will send out a sign up to capture the names of those interested in attending.
  • Students should have their lockers; if not, please have your child visit with the teacher that takes them to lunch (3rd period for 6th graders and 4th period for 7th and 8th graders).  Once lockers have been distributed, please remember that students may not carry backpacks to class.
We hope your first week was as smooth at home as it was on campus.  I can't wait to see everyone at Open House!
