Ready for Day One @ KLMS?

Knights ~ Welcome Back!!!

Here are some notes for starting school...

Open House - August 12

You are invited to join us for an Open House on Friday, August 12th at 5:30 PM.  This is not a mandatory event but it will allow families access to the school for self-guided tours.  We will have a few presentations to help parents navigate middle school - they will be most helpful to families new to the middle years.  We will start in room 114 with Skyward assistance learn how to monitor grades and assignments.  We will then have two presentations in the cafeteria - Teen brains and social media at 5:30 and navigating middle school as a parent at 6:00.  Our last presentation will be in the library at 7:00 for a presentation about teen stress and ways to help your tween.

Day One - August 16

  1. 6th grade students will report to the gym; 7th and 8th grade students will report to their Catapult.  Catapult teachers will be listed in the student's Google Classroom - the goal is to have those finalized by Friday, August 12th.  A list will also be posted on the walls for students when they arrive August 12th; students do not have to know their room before coming to school.
  2. Students will get their schedule in Catapult; any schedule prior to this day may be invalid as the counselors continue to resolve conflicts and level classes.
  3. Students only need paper and something to write with on the first day.
  4. Hot lunches and breakfast will be available in the cafeteria.  In order for students to qualify for free or reduced meals, they must apply and be approved for the meal program (click here to apply).  This is a change from last year when all meals were free for all students.
  5. Expect heavy traffic the first week of school; it is not uncommon for the buses to run late).  The gate between KLMS and HHS will be closed at locked at 7:35 daily and unlocked after buses leave in the afternoon.

General Procedures and Guidelines

  • Parent drop off and pick up are in the back of the school from 7:45-8:15 AM and starting at 3:35 PM.  Please do not enter the front bus loop before school until 8:10 or after school until 3:50 (when buses have left).  If you are dropping your student off between 8:15-8:20 and you do not see staff, please drop your student at the front of the building as the back doors will be locked.
  • Students will be issued lockers the 2nd week of school.  Until they have their locker, they can carry their backpacks with them during the day.  Once they have their locker, they must keep the backpack in the locker and may carry a drawstring bag during the day if they choose.  Several of our students like the zip-up binder to carry their school work.
  • The students are expected to follow the dress code, click here for the PfISD dress code.  KLMS does not have any additional dress code expectations.
  • Students have access to microwaves for breakfast/lunch but not a refrigerator.
  • Students may wear a mask if they choose; however the school does not have masks available.  Students must bring their own masks.
  • Students may bring disposable or refillable water bottles; students cannot bring drinks that do not have a secured lid (ex: a cup with no lid or a fountain drink).
  • Students may have and use their cell phones until 8:20.  This is when 1st period starts and all electronics should be off and stored in a locker or bag.  Students may use wired headphones but not wireless earbuds/airpods.
