Knights,
We are making an adjustment to the Meet the Teacher scheduled next week on Tuesday, September 6th. It was planned to be an outdoor event, but we have elected to adjust now due to the threat of thunderstorms (or high humidity as we wait/recover from thunderstorms). We had planned for a later event to avoid the heat of the late afternoon, but now that we will be inside we are adjusting the hours; hopefully, this will accommodate families better.
Additionally, we are adding a presentation from Dr. Killian regarding the elections to be held this fall. It is imperative that voters understand the nuances of school finance - for example, did you know that a district’s funding does not increase because the tax base increases? School districts in Texas are financed in accordance with a formula, so the amount we are funded doesn’t change when the tax base changes - the change is how much of our formula-determined funding comes from the State (versus local taxes). There are three important ballot items on November 8th: Attendance Credit Election (ACE), Voter Approval Tax Rates Election (VATRE), and bond propositions. Be aware that the outcome of the ACE election could impact which property is in PfISD and which property may go to another school district. If you haven’t read about them yet, get a jump start on the PfSID website (click here).
We will start at 5:30 in a come and go style. Teachers will be in their classrooms and you may visit the teachers in any order, please know this is not a time for personal conferences but rather to see the layout of the classroom and meet the teacher. We feel this will be beneficial for families with multiple children at KLMS, or if you are a returning parent and do not need to meet all of the teachers.
At 6:30, Dr. Killian will present election information in the cafeteria. The VATRE and ACE elections impact our district so it is important that you are informed - especially because the ballot wording is not intuitive, nor will the ballot explain the impacts of a FOR or AGAINST vote.
