Mid-September Update

Knights,
What a great start to the year!  We have completed the 1st IPR (progress report), all students should have received a paper progress report Thursday in class.  If your student did not receive their IPR, ask them to check with their 5th period teacher. Skyward will have the most current grades.

Hopefully you have been able to access Skyward to monitor grades and behavior.  If you need assistance, please contact Vanessa Antu at Vanessa.Antu@PfISD.net.

We have a great community at Kelly Lane; we appreciate all of the support that our parents and community show for the Knights.  Here are some expectations that have been shared with students but we also want parents to know.

Attending Games
With athletics in full swing, it is fun to interact with students in a different setting!  We have football, volleyball, and cross country all in season.  If your student wants to attend an after school game, please keep the following things in mind when planning:
  • Students are welcome to attend a game with, or without, a parent.  The cost for a student is $2 paid upon entry (adults are $4).
  • Students should leave campus after school and return at game time; they should not plan to "hang out" on campus until the game starts.  Most games start at 5:30 pm.
  • Students should be picked up from the game within 15 minutes of the end of the game.  Encourage your student to call when the game is nearing the end if you don't have a predetermined time (they can use the office phone if needed by finding the administrator on duty).
  • Students should plan to remain at the game throughout the duration of the game.  If students leave the building, they will not be allowed to return to the game.
Dress Code
For as long as I have been in education, there has been a difficult balance between trending fashion and Board required dress code policies.  A few areas of clash now are jeans that are distressed (have holes) and leggings.  The general rule of thumb with distressed jeans is that they should cover the same amount of skin that acceptable shorts would cover.  If the hole is in the pocket region or the upper thigh where skin can be seen, they would be considered out of dress code.  When students wear leggings, they should pair it with a shirt that is long enough to cover their bottom (think tunic)- wrapping a jacket or other shirt around the waist does not suffice.  Just as clothing that is too tight can be an issue, if pants are so loose that undergarments can be seen/hang out they are out of dress code.  For your convenience, the dress code has been added to the KLMS website as well as it continues to be available on the PfISD website.  (LINK to dress code).

Pick Up/ Drop Off Safety
I have a couple of safety reminders for everyone.  If you are dropping students off in the morning, or picking them up in the afternoon, please use the back drive.  When you are in the line, please pull forward as much as possible; this helps to move traffic off of Falcon Pointe Blvd.  Here are some other requests to help keep the entire community safe:
  • Please do not drop students off along the curb by the cafeteria; please pull to the back of the school for drop off.
  • Please do not park/stop along the back exit drive when picking up students (even from extra curricular events/practices).  This creates a one-way drive, causing issues when cars are not able to see the entire driveway before entering (due to the curve by the portable).
  • Please do not U-turn at the dumpsters - there have been several near misses of accidents when cars U-turn.  Please proceed to circle the parking lot.
  • Please do not encourage students to dart out from between parked cars to cross the street/enter your vehicle.  If you are stopping on Falcon Pointe and a student is entering/exiting your vehicle, you should be pulled over to the curb.
Younger Siblings (mostly MES)
If your KLMS student has an elementary sibling that walks home, please do not instruct them to wait at KLMS until our dismissal.  There is no supervision or safety measures for these students.  With no adults to monitor the students, they frequently make choices that are not consistent with school behavior expectations (elementary or secondary).  Please make arrangements for younger siblings that do not require them waiting at KLMS.
