Updates from KLMS

Knights,
Thank you for a successful Open House and start to the 2019-2020 school year!  Here are some updates and changes:

Lockers: All students have been issued a locker.  Students may still bring a backpack to school but it must be stored in their locker during the school day.  Sling bags to carry smaller items are permissible throughout the day.  Students did great today getting in and out of their lockers in a timely fashion.

Catapult: Catapult assignments were made available today to students via lists by the cafeteria and in their grade hallway.  We will start Catapult tomorrow (Tuesday the 27th) so students still have time to locate their Catapult.  Catapult will be daily from 1:22-1:47 and serves as an advisory period.  During this time, there is a variety of character lessons, reading (whole class and individual), as well as some study hall.  Three days a week students are expected to be reading (this can count toward their reading logs in ELA class) so please help by making sure students have a book.

Heat Advisory: Please know that there are athletic guidelines we use to determine if outdoor sports can have practice.  Our primary goal is to make sure students are healthy and safe.  We will still allow students outside, even in high temperatures, during lunch recess for 10 minutes.  Students do not have to go outside if they prefer to stay inside but many of them still like to be outside (even in the crazy Texas heat!).

Skyward: Skyward is our new student management system (FOCUS) where you can track your students academic progress.  All middle school accounts should have been activated this afternoon.  If you have difficulty with your account, please contact the technology department via email at ParentPortal@pfisd.net.  You should have received an email about activating your account; if not please contact the email address above.

Lunches:  You may bring your student lunch but cannot bring lunch for any other student (drop off or staying). Lunches dropped off should not include fountain drinks and be dropped off to the main office in a bag clearly labeled with the student’s name.

Knight Lab will start next Tuesday and run daily from 7:45-8:15 in the library.

PE Clothing: If you have not secured PE clothing, the expectation is that students wear navy shorts and gray t-shirts.  These can be purchased at any store but the PTO does sell PE clothing that have screen printed with KLMS.

We hope you have had a successful start to the school year!
