Welcome Back!

Knights,

Welcome back- we are so excited to see everyone tomorrow.  We have some changes and transition information for this semester and I want to share it with everyone.

In December we said good-bye to Jason Soileau, the assistant principal for the 7th grade class.  He is moving to a new district as a campus principal; he will be missed but we wish him well!  At this time, we are planning to have a substitute assistant principal during the month of January while we interview candidates; should a candidate be selected our goal is to start the new AP in February.  This change was very quick, so I apologize for any inconvenience his departure will cause but please know we are committed to serving our students and finding the best principal for them.

We are changing advisories for the spring semester; students will receive a new schedule during 2nd period Tuesday.  Because the remainder of their schedules did not change, students will report to 1st period tomorrow like a normal school day.  Please be aware that this did cause a few lunches to be changed; however, the vast majority of students will have no change to their lunch schedule.  As a result, all students will have new lunch table assignments for days that we have assigned seating.

During advisory on Fridays, we will be starting clubs again for the spring semester.  They will function a little different than in the past; however, the general process remains the same for those that were with us last year or before.  Every Friday, starting January 20th, students will go to their chosen club provided they have received all signatures in their agenda.  Students should be used to collecting signatures from teachers for reward time on Friday.

We are entering a crazy weather time of year- where students will come in jackets and gloves but can leave in short sleeves!  Please make sure jackets are labeled with the students name, or check the lost and found frequently, so students are not losing those extra items needed in the morning.

Over the next two months, students will begin selecting classes for next year.  Most of the course selection for incoming 6th graders will be completed by early February and all other students should have their course selections submitted by early March.  Exact dates will be given to students when they receive their course selection papers.

Important Transition Dates:
Incoming 5th graders visit KLMS on January 23 during school
Counselors will visit the elementary schools January 25-30 during school
Incoming 5th grade parent night at KLMS on January 31 from 6pm-8pm

Current 8th grade students will have parent conferences for high school course selection February 8, 9, and 10.  Students will be assigned a time; more information and specifics will be sent to 8th grade parents.

I sincerely hope everyone had a relaxing break and look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
