Knights,
I hope everyone is settling in and getting back into the school routine. Open House was a great success and we appreciate the time that KLMS parents invest in their student's education. Together, the parents and teachers make a great team for the benefit of our students and community!
Student Safety and Expectations- students have been doing a great job gathering the cafeteria in the morning! They have been great about having a pass to see a teacher or using the Knight Lab in library.
Walkers should cross Falcon Pointe Blvd at the crosswalk of Falcon Pointe Blvd. and Barley Field Pass because we have crossing guards at this location in the morning and after school. When students cross at other locations (particularly near the parent pick up exit), it compromises their safety and it makes traffic back up more than necessary.
Teachers will begin counting students tardy who do not arrive in class on time. One thing we see that causes problems is when students try to access their locker during passing periods that are not designated for locker access (the time is shorter). Please help students by reviewing with them how to chunk their materials into the classes they will attend. For example, students need to bring the materials for 1st thru 3rd period (or 4th period if they are 7th or 8th grade) in the morning. Then they need to get materials for 4th (6th grade only) thru 6th period. Then all students can get their materials for 7th period prior to 7th period. This is an essential time management and preparation skill they need to develop as they get older- think about how many times you stop at the front door before leaving for the day to make sure you have everything you will need before you return home.
While 6th grade students can access their lockers after school, we strongly recommend they do not- especially if they are bus or car riders.
Parent Involvement Opportunity- Every year we create a Campus Academic Advisory Committee (CAAC). This group is a combination of school employees, parents, students, and community members. The goal of this committee is to review the direction of the school and make recommendations to the principal. We meet about four times a year (2 per semester); the first meeting will be September 29th at 6:30 in the KLMS library. If you are interested in joining the committee, please email Dina Schaefer.
Sports- next week volleyball and football begin. Check out the schedule on the KLMS home page. Students may attend and can purchase a ticket at the gate for $2. Students should not plan on staying after school until the game starts; they should plan on leaving campus and then returning for the game.
Parent Portal- we are still anxiously awaiting the ability to share gradebooks online. We appreciate your patience, I know this is difficult for many parents! Please be watching your email for an invitation to verify your address and instructions to sign up for online access.
The Pflugerville Education Foundation- this group supports many of the activities at KLMS through grant awards, as well as many other campuses in PfISD. They are hosting the tenth annual Schoolhouse Scramble (golf tournament) on September 10th. For more information about participating or sponsorship, check out their website.
The Pfluger Pfun Run- AVID is partnering with the Pfluger Haus Foundation for a 5K pfun run around Lake Pflugerville on September 19th. For more information, or to register, please see the Pfluger Haus Foundation website.
