Knights,
Undoubtedly, you have noticed some changes in Skyward in regards to student grades. I want to explain some of those changes and urge you not to focus on the number grade.
For courses that are not high school courses, students receive a P (pass) or an I (incomplete). The changing from a numeric grading system to this P/I system is a daunting task that must be completed at a district level. The way the grade is reported/viewed is dependent on when the teacher entered the grade. Originally, teachers entered a number grade that was then converted to a P/I (but kept the original number grade). Then, teachers could enter a P/I and those marks were assigned default values of 69.5 for passing and 0 for incomplete (therefore, it might not match the grade you saw in Google Classroom). Those default values were changed to 100 for passing and 69 for incomplete; however, the system has not retroactively applied the change in default values. So, you may have a student that has three Ps, each showing a different default value.
Please, do not worry about the number grades that are shown for the P or I; those will get updated. At this time, focus on whether your student has a P or an I. There are three main reasons students have an I: 1) they are completing paper-based learning but the teacher has not received it yet, 2) they are completing online work and missed turning in an assignment (maybe they didn’t mark it done or attach work), or 3) they are completing online work and submitted work with significant errors or it was blank. All of these situations can be fixed without a grade penalty to the student. If you are unsure why your student has an I, please reach out to the classroom teacher for more information.
As always, we appreciate your partnership in helping your students stay active in their learning. We know this stress for families fluctuates and your need for assistance might change. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your teacher and let them know if you are struggling. If you are unsure how to navigate the various demands of multiple classrooms, please reach out to your counselor and they can help create a plan. Everyone of us at KLMS are invested in your success, we are more than happy to help.
