I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy. By now you have had a chance to absorb the information that we will not be returning to the building for instruction this year - all learning will remain remote. Given that information, I am sad to say that we are formally cancelling all events through the remainder of the year.
Many, if not most, students have personal belongings at school. Please know that we are working with the district leadership to develop a plan that will allow students to receive their belongings in a way that prioritizes the safety of all involved. Additionally, there are items that will need to be returned to school such as library books and textbooks (if a student has one). Again, any system we use will prioritize safety for all and adhere to all guidelines. I will communicate more when the plan is finalized.
Hopefully you had the chance to review the grading policy. The policy is on the PfISD Remote Learning Site. Here are the main highlights that will impact KLMS students:
- Courses that issue middle school will be assessed using pass/incomplete standards.
- Courses that issue high school credit will assessed using a numerical average. Students will receive a numerical grade for the last grading cycle and that will be averaged with the 3rd nine-weeks grading cycle. There will not be a semester exam and the semester grade will be the average of the two grading periods in the spring. That average will be used to award spring high school credit but will not be included in the students' GPA calculation (fall semester will be in the GPA, spring will not).
- Teachers will record a grade in the gradebook by Friday at 5:00. However, it is entirely possible that the students have through the weekend to complete the assignment or the teacher has not received the paper-based learning packets. In the case that teachers do not have an assignment from the student, they will enter a grade of "incomplete" until the assignment is received.
- There will not a late penalty as we know these circumstances are out of the students' control. Please do not worry if your student has an "I" recorded for a grade; it does not mean that they can't turn in the assignment or will fail - it simply means that the teacher did not have the work to grade by Friday at 5:00.
Please reach out to your teacher, counselor, or administrator for help. The needs of students and families are constantly changing and we can help support you with at-home learning.
Stay safe and have a great week.
