Knights, Here are some updates from KLMS.
Report Cards and STAR 360 Reports
Report cards will be sent home with students on Tuesday, October 23rd. Along with the report card, you will receive the results from your students beginning of the year (BOY) STAR 360 screener. There is a letter with the report to help you discern the information being shared.
Student Safety
As a reminder, students should leave campus at the conclusion of school. If students are tutoring with a teacher, they should be headed home after tutorials because there is no one to supervise. If students are planning to attend a game, they should leave campus and return for the game. At the conclusion of the game they should be picked up with 15 minutes of the conclusion of the game. We appreciate your assistance with this- we want to make sure students are safe!
Social Media Safety
If your student is using social media, I encourage you to check the accounts that they are following. We have come across a few Instagram group accounts that are not promoting healthy relationships or courteous communication. There are also multiple variations of these groups and similar issues exist on other social media platforms (such as Snap Chat). We encourage you to review the accounts your student is using; know that many students have two accounts and some of the most unhealthy communication occurs late at night.
Veteran's Day Assembly
We are three weeks away from our annual Veteran's Day Assembly which will be held on Friday, November 9th. The assembly for 7th and 8th graders starts at 8:30 and the assembly for 6th graders starts at 9:05. We would like to recognize as many veterans as possible. If you or a family member has served in the armed forces please consider joining us. We will have a reception for veteran's approximately 15-20 minutes prior to the start of each assembly in the library. If you are interested, please contact Linda Spataro at linda.spataro@pfisd.net.
Catapult
Our new bell schedule has started and students are settling into Catapult. They started their One Grade, One Book project this week. Thank you to the parents that were able to help us tape the 8th grade book. During the book project, students have study hall on Wednesdays.
Red Ribbon Week
Next week we are observing Red Ribbon Week, a week dedicated to encouraging students to lead drug free lives. For the history of Red Ribbon Week, please visit their website. The Student Council has selected themes for dress up days next week. Students may wear a hat if they are participating by dressing up; all clothing must be school appropriate (meet dress code), no costumes are allowed, and no pajamas are allowed.
Monday - Dress like a Friend
Tuesday - Meme Day (dress like your favorite meme)
Wednesday - Way Back Day (dress from the past)
Thursday - Festive Day (dress like your favorite holiday)
Friday - Wear Red day
Student Events
We are nearing the end of the volleyball and football seasons. Thank you to all of the athlete, cheerleader, dance, and band parents that have helped us have another great season of KLMS Athletics! Basketball tryouts are coming up soon- have your student talk to one of the coaches for more details.
The theatre department will be hosting their second annual Knight on Broadway benefit show on November 2nd at 7:00 pm. There is not an admission price but all donations will be given to charity. This year, the students are selecting a charity that will help children and families impacted by childhood cancer in honor of their classmate who lost his battle with cancer. Last year, this event raised approximately $1800 for Rockport-Fulton Middle School to rebuild after Hurricane Harvey.
Gifted and Talented
Calling all nominations for gifted and talented students! Not sure if I'm talking to you? Come to our parent meeting on October 24th at 6:00 pm in room 302 for more information. A copy of the presentation will be placed on the KLMS website if you want to preview the information or see if the meeting is right for you.
On behalf of the administrators, I want to thank you all for a great start to the school year! We appreciate your support!
Sincerely,
Dina Schaefer, Rebecca Embry, and Nolberto Reyna
