End of Year Procedures

Knights!

It's time to wrap up the year and wish each other well!  Here are some end of year reminders and basic information.

Today- Students began cleaning out their lockers today.  Students should be bringing everything home today and tomorrow.  Starting Friday, May 27th students should not bring backpacks as they will have no place to store the bags.

  • Backpacks brought to school will be returned to a parent at the end of the business day on Wednesday, June 1.
  • Please do not send bags/items for sleepovers.  We cannot accommodate the volume of bags or guarantee the safety of contents.

Thursday, May 26.  The 7th grade students have their reward party for passing all of their classes and demonstrating responsibility with attendance and tardiness; students who are not participating will follow their normal schedule.  Due to the threat of rain, we have moved the event to the gym, requiring 6th grade PE classes to be relocated.  There are posters on the wall near PE and in the 6th grade hallway to tell students where they should report.

Yearbooks will be distributed on this day in either 1st period or advisory.

*Friday, May 27.  The 8th grade field trip is still a go.  There is a threat of rain and thunderstorms in San Antonio; we have weighed the options and at this point feel it is best to go as planned and hope the rain/thunderstorms stay away.  However, in the event too many rides are closed, the students will either return home early or go to the nearby mall before returning home.  This decision will be made by administrators and teachers; we will consider the time of day and severity of weather.  Please know that we will reassess tomorrow afternoon- if there is a threat of flooding or tornadoes we will communicate any changes in the plans.  Without explicit changes announced, you can expect the trip to go as scheduled.  We do recommend that students bring a change of clothes; backpacks are allowed but will be searched at Six Flags.  Absolutely no outside food or drinks are allowed.
  • Students report to cafeteria at 8:05, they check in with their chaperone.
  • We will load the buses at 8:30.
  • Meal tickets distributed at 12:45; students must use the meal ticket between 1:00-2:00.
  • Students check in with chaperones at 4:00 to load buses.
  • Students leave Six Flags at 4:30.
  • Estimated arrival at KLMS is 6:00-6:30.
Monday, May 30.  No school for students and staff.

*Tuesday, May 31.  Knight Out is our middle school version of a field day.  Each grade is assigned approximately two hours to self-select their activities.  There will be a dodgeball tournament where students can play (if pre-registered) or watch in the gym, basketball/kickball/tether ball/and soccer will be on the outside fields, the PFLEX students will be selling their goods/services as part of their final business unit; Karaoke is in the Choir room, there is a dance off on the patio, a chalk walk on the back sidewalk, and the 40 Book Challenge celebration for invited students.  There will be some concessions for sale; students do not have to bring money unless they want to purchase concessions (water fountains inside are available or they can bring their own water bottle) or they want to purchase items from the PFLEX students.

Students should not bring backpacks, their yearbook, or other personal items that they cannot carry on their person.  At most, students need a spiral and writing utensil (like the first day of school).

*Wednesday, June 1 - EARLY RELEASE.  The grade level end of year assemblies are scheduled as follows: 7th grade at 8:10, 6th grade at 9:45, 8th grade at 11:00.  You should be/will be notified prior to the ceremony if your student is receiving an award.  Lunch will be served; please allow extra time if you need to get your student from school as students will be in a variety of locations.

*Reminder- no backpacks on these days; backpacks and other bags will be stored in the vault until end of business on June 1.
