Welcome Back

Knights,
I hope you had a restful two weeks and are ready for an exciting spring semester! We had a successful fall semester and I look forward to seeing all the returning faces, the kids always look like they've grown a foot after a long break!  In addition, we look forward to working with all of our new students and parents.

A New Nurse
I am excited to introduce Amiee Kurio as the new KLMS nurse!  She comes to us with a wealth of experience and she has already had the chance to work with many of our students!  Nurse Kurio is replacing Lisa Harley, who is now teaching Health Science.  Nurse Kurio can be reached by calling 594-2835 or by email.

What's Coming Up
January 5th- students return to school; all students report directly to 1st period.
January 18th- Student and Staff Holiday
February 3rd- Early Release and Mad City Money (7th graders)
February 15th- Student Holiday, (staff have professional development)
March 11th- The Big Event

Mad City Money
Mad City Money is a simulation sponsored by the A+ Credit Union, the event will be for 7th grade students on February 3rd during the school day.  The program is designed to help students understand, in a hands-on simulation, the financial world for adulthood by having students explore the dynamics of income, expenditures, budgeting for a house, student debt, the use of credit cards and more.  CAN YOU HELP?

This simulation requires a lot of volunteers in addition to the teachers and A+ staff to help students navigate the various stations.  If you can help, please sign up here and submit a PfISD district application to volunteer (if you are not already an approved volunteer).

Please sign up even if your application to PfISD is pending so we can get an accurate count of volunteers.  We must have volunteer names to submit to A+ by January 20th.

Please note that PfISD volunteer applications can take up to 4 weeks for approval.

The Big Event
There is still time to register!  Students can register for this HHS sponsored experience to serve the community by getting the permission slip signed and returned.  Permission forms are available at the front office.  For more information about The Big Event, click here.  The event involves students from all PfISD secondary campuses and will take place throughout the community of Pflugerville on March 11th.

Did you know that you can view all assignments loaded into the teacher grade books in one place?? When I look at my son's grades, if I click on "calendar" it will show the assignments that have been added to the grade book for all of his classes- on one calendar.  It's cool- check it out!  We are still learning the ways that the new grade book can be a powerful tool for teachers and parents!
