I want to share some important dates, events, and procedures with you. I know everyone is extremely busy, so I will try to remain as brief as possible.
Tuesday, January 12th: 7th and 8th grade students will be taking a mock STAAR test to help their ELA teachers provide additional instruction. The actual STAAR test will be at the end of March. The 6th grade students will still follow have classes but it is a modified rotation in the morning.
*All students will see all of their teachers in the afternoon.
*If you must take your student out of school, we recommend coming with extra time. Students will not be in their normally scheduled class and we will not have student aides to help locate students. We appreciate your patience in this matter.

The Big Event
The Big Event is a community-service event that will involve near 2,000 PfISD students on March 11th. All students (any grade) are eligible to participate; permission forms are available in the front office and must be turned in by January 22nd.
Mad City Money
We are still in desperate need of volunteers to help with Mad City Money, a simulation provided in conjunction with A+ Credit Union for 7th grade students on February 3rd.
Dress Code
Please help us monitor dress code; the request to be more strict with enforcing dress code was student-initiated. Yoga pants, and similar tight-fitting pants, are not within dress code standards. If a student is wearing tight-fitting pants, they must wear a shirt that comes down to mid-thigh. Students who are out of compliance with dress code will receive behavior referrals and discipline. We don't want anyone to have to deal with the frustration of finding new clothes, especially when it is avoidable from the start.
Students were warned all last week, daily announcements were made and principals visited classrooms to answer any questions or concerns. Please revisit the PfISD dress code policy as desired.
Catapult Enrichment Classes
We will have four cycles of enrichment classes this semester through Catapult. All sign-ups are now available from the KLMS Catapult webpage.. Some classes go fast, so please sign up as soon as possible!
8th Grade Events
There are many events for the 8th graders during the spring semester, we will create a link on the front page of the website to add information as we receive it. Here is a preview:
HHS Course Fair will be held January 27th at HHS from 6:00-9:00. This is chance for students to preview electives and other course offerings prior to finalizing their 4-year plan.
February 10-12 students will have parent conferences during the school day to review their high school, four-year plan.
Reading and Math STAAR tests will be taken the end of March. Students who are unsuccessful will receive additional instruction and will take the test again in May. Students must pass the reading and math 8 test in order to be promoted to ninth grade.
Panoramic picture will be taken April 28 at 8:20 am. Students can usually purchase the picture the following school day (the cost is determined by the photographer, it has been $25 in the past).
8th grade dance will be May 6th from 6:00-9:00 pm, theme to be determined. The dance tickets are usually around $10 and include a catered meal.
8th grade end-of-year trip will be in May (near the end of school). The exact date is being finalized, but students have been told that they must be passing, have no/minimal tardies, and no discipline concerns. This trip generally costs around $60 per student and is non-refundable (due to requirements for pre-purchasing transportation and tickets).
End of Year Award Ceremonies
All grades will have an end of the year award ceremony on June 1st, the final day of school.
