Knights,
Welcome back to school! We are excited to have all of the students back and to get the know the new families better. The last two weeks have brought lots of changes to KLMS, and we are happy to announce that all teachers are ready to go.
Where do the students go on the first day?
6th graders report to the gym to collect their schedule and wait there for dismissal to class.
7th/8th graders will report to their first period class, which can be found by looking at the posted lists (cafeteria, near the library and the academic hallway).
What should they bring?
The first day, students need something to write with and something to write on. They will not be issued lockers until the second week of school. Students in gym do not need to bring their gym clothes on the first day, they will receive more information from their teacher.
What about lunch?
Students may bring a lunch or purchase a school lunch. To purchase a lunch, students need cash or they need to know their 6-digit ID number to charge their lunch to their account. Students do have access to microwaves, but not to a refrigerator.
The first few days of school, lunch lines can be long. The biggest slow down comes from students not knowing their ID number, but please be assured that we will make sure students have time to eat their lunch.
I'm having trouble with my students online lunch account, why?
PfISD recently made changes to the lunch accounts, accounts should be able to accept new payments soon. For more information about student lunch accounts, click here.
Where can I find out about bus routes?
You can type your address into school finder to locate information about bus routes. For general transportation information, please click here.
The first week of school, buses will sometimes run late; when buses run late we know that can cause concern for parents. To help, we have created an account through Remind 101 to communicate delays to you as soon as we have updates. If your student rides a bus, you may sign up for updates that will come through as text messages. You may sign up for updates on as many buses as you prefer.
To sign up for updates, please send a text message to: (646) 395-9071. The text of the message will be "@klms<type the bus #>". For example, to sign up for updates on bus 116, your text message would be: @klms116.
You will receive confirmation you've been added to a class. As we receive information from the transportation company, we will send out updates. If there are no concerns, you will not receive a text message.
What is advisory?
Students will see a new class, called advisory, on their schedule. This is their assigned homeroom class during Catapult time. For the first two weeks of school, students will report to this advisory for their Catapult and SSR time. Therefore, this is their class for Thursday study halls during Catapult and any other time that we have homeroom (for example, the last week of the semester).
Click here for more information about Catapult. Students will begin signing up for class in the next week and Catapult classes will start after Labor Day.
I hope you find this information helpful and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
