UIL Eligibility Information - Time Sensitive

Team,
I want to make sure that everyone is clear about UIL reports, eligibility, and report cards.  The UIL Side-by-Side states that, “All schools must check grades for all participants at the end of the first six weeks of the school year.  From that point, grades are checked at the end of the grading period whether it is six, nine, or twelve weeks in length”.   This means:
  • Eligibility reports are pulled at the end of school on the last day of the grading period, we will pull the eligibility report at 3:35 on October 22nd.
  • UIL eligibility and report cards grades are separate things, though closely related.  Therefore, a teacher could accept missing work before report card grades are due, making a students’ average passing by the time report cards are run; however, the student remains ineligible because they were failing at the end of the grading period.
  • A student has a 7-day grace/waiting period before their participation changes.  In other words, a student that becomes ineligible based on the UIL report October 22nd will be allowed to participate until the end of the school day on October 29th

I know this is confusing, here are some scenarios based on this grading period which ends Wednesday, October 22nd.
  1. Student passed everything at 6-week IPR, is failing at the end of school at the 9-week marking period, and a passing/failing grade is reported on the report card.  The student will become ineligible in 7 days, at the end of school.   Example: a football player that is failing as of 3:35 on Oct. 22nd will be allowed to play in the game Oct. 23rd but not Oct. 30th
  2. Student passed everything at 6-week IPR, is passing everything at the end of school at the 9-week marking period, and passing/failing grade is reported on the report card.  The student will remain eligible.
  3. Student failed at least one class at 6-week IPR, is passing all classes at the end of school at the 9-week marking period, and passing/failing grade is reported on the report card.  The student will become eligible in 7 days, at the end of school.  Example, a football player regaining eligibility will remain ineligible for the Oct. 23rd game but be allowed to play in the Oct. 30th game.
  4. Student failed at least one class at 6-week IPR, is failing at least one class at the end of school at the 9-week marking period, and passing/failing grade is reported on the report card.  The student will remain ineligible.
To avoid any complications, students concerned with eligibility should have all work completed and submitted by the last day of the grading period.
