Knights,
Catapult started this week and the students did a great job! Our band won a fabulous award, and our athletes are experiencing success. It is certainly a great time to be a Knight. I have a variety of topics to cover this time around, I hope this information is helpful to you.
Catapult Enrichment classes- students can change their Catapult classes for any of the next three weeks through Thursday evening. To register, follow the link to the grade specific lesson plan page and look for "catapult" on the left navigation menu. Catapult enrichment classes meet Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; Thursday is a study hall within their 4th period class; Friday is club day.
Friday Clubs- we will be starting clubs next Friday and students may start choosing their clubs at any time. Students will only register for one club; this stays constant throughout the semester and students can change at semester. There are a variety of options, students are sure to find something that interests them! To register for clubs, follow the link to the grade specific lesson plan page and look for "fall semester clubs" on the left navigation menu.
**Please note that students who have outstanding work will be assigned to a mandatory study hall in lieu of attending their club on Friday. We sincerely hope that all students are able to participate in their club, but their academic success takes priority.
Dance- the 6th grade dance, Hollywood Knights, is going to be a fantastic event for students! The dance is September 26th; there will be photos taken on the "red carpet" and uploaded to a photo sharing site. However, students will need a signed permission slip to be included in the photo sharing; these permission slips will be available when the students purchase their tickets. For students who intend to purchase their ticket at the door, a parent or guardian must be present to sign the permission slip. If you are interested in volunteering, click here.
Volunteering- I am trying to make it easier to find opportunities to volunteer at school. There is a new web page, called "Supporting KLMS", with a link to all volunteering opportunities.
Picture Day- Mark your calendar for October 1st. We will send home to order information the week before pictures.
Veteran's Day- We are planning our annual Veteran's Day assembly for November 11th. If you know of a Veteran who could attend, please click here so we may honor their service.
First Day Packets- If we have not received your first day packet information, your student will receive another packet with their progress report. Please update the information and return it to the front office as soon as possible.
Lice- Lice is not a favorite topic for any parent, but please make sure to check your students for lice. Great times to check are after slumber parties or campouts; if you are unsure, please see our school nurse for assistance.
Free and Reduced Lunch Program- If you, a neighbor, or a friend need financial assistance with the cost of school lunches, please complete an application for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Qualified families can receive financial assistance that helps to ease a parents' mind.
Thank you all for your continued support of Kelly Lane Middle School. It is a pleasure to serve a wonderful community,
Dina Schaefer
