Catapult is a 25 minute block of the day that we use to provide students with intervention or enrichment activities; whatever is appropriate to their needs. Using Catapult for enrichment was a new endeavor for us last year and based on student and teacher feedback, we made some changes.
This year, the teachers have created a list of classes that are offered (per grade) and the students will select the sessions that they would like to attend. Here is how this works:
- Each week, there is a list of classes that are being offered to students. The first four weeks are already ready for registration.
- Students select one course per week and sign up using SignUp Genius. Changes cannot be made after the Friday before the class starts.
- Students attend that class Monday - Wednesday during SSR and Catapult.
- Thursday SSR and Catapult is in the students 4th period class; this is a study hall for students to get caught up or organized.
- Friday SSR and Catapult are club days; students will select their club (one choice per semester) next week; we will use the same sign up process as the enrichment classes.
- Students with missing work will be assigned to a mandatory study hall in lieu of club day on Fridays.
- Each Friday, a list of students and Catapult locations will be posted in the main hall near the library as well as in the grade specific hallway. These rosters will help students if they forget where they are supposed to go for Catapult.
Some students have already registered for their classes; but some have not. All registrations are open and ready for students, we will be checking on Thursday to make sure students are registered.
Here's how they register for classes:
- From the KLMS home page, go to the "STAFF" link.
- Select the appropriate grade for lesson plans; select "Catapult" from the menu on the left.
- The page that opens has the instructions, some extra information, and a link to the Sign Up Genius. Click the link.
- Four weeks have been loaded into this sign up; students select one class per date and click "sign up"
- At this time, students are prompted to sign in, create a new account, or register as a guest. Any option is acceptable; all students have a school email address that can be used. If parents have an account, they can use their account to register students by clicking "Display an Alternate Name". Please note that names will not be visible to anyone other than the KLMS administrators.
- Students should not use nick names or register for more than one class or seat per week.
We believe strongly that students should be challenged and provided opportunities to explore areas of interest; Catapult provides this opportunity. We hope you enjoy talking with your student about their selections; students that signup using an account (their account or a parents account) can review the selections they made; changes can made until Friday for the September 15th classes.
