Knights,
By now you have received some information about the start of remote schooling. Instruction officially starts Monday, March 30 and the teachers will be reaching out tomorrow to let you know how to access that instruction (for example, are they using Google Classroom, a website, or something else).
If you are reading this, there is a good change that you have access to the internet but it might not mean that you have access to devices to access the remote learning platforms. If you, or someone you know, needs to request technology assistance (devices or Internet), please use the links that were in Dr. Killians last email. The links are below are the same but here for your convenience.
English Access Survey: https://forms.gle/iFBapTtCJGczPmWaA
Spanish Access Survey: https://forms.gle/9h1DRgpgF4Lsn5QW9
Vietnamese Access Survey: https://forms.gle/Fq8zAjsumAPc7xHQ6
If you do not have access to devices or the Internet, there is an option for paper-based learning plans. Please let your students' teachers know so they can help develop a plan with you to monitor the instruction. If your student receives accommodations, you will be working with the teacher to accommodate those learning plans (students will not be issued personalized packets at pick up).
What information might be covered? The district curriculum department has done a great job of analyzing the remaining curriculum for the year and dividing the information to guide our lessons. This department has worked to develop a universal plan for all grades, all schools (that's 25,000 students and 40 campuses) for teachers and parents, without the opportunity for professional development, so that all students can continue learning. If you know a curriculum specialist, be sure to thank them. **The link that was previously here cannot be seen publically so I have removed the link. If you have questions, please email me directly.
All of us at Kelly Lane are nervous and excited to be starting instruction again - much like I imagine many students are nervous and excited. As we have been working this week, we have used the guidelines below. I am sharing them with you because we are all in this together. We cannot educate our students without each other and the opportunity (and need) for partnerships has never been greater than this in my years of education. So as we go forward, remember:
- Health and safety first.
- Assume everyone is working their hardest.
- Provide support to each other.
- Keep the big picture in mind.
- Be flexible and give grace.
- Remember the rules/needs/expectations will be changing and adjusting as we navigate this experience.
I sincerely am looking forward to the chance for next lunch duty - we all miss the students and normalcy of school! It is a little crazy to consider spring in a middle school "normal" but that's where we are.
Please don't hesitate to reach out and ask for assistance. If you haven't taken advantage of the opportunity for breakfast and/or lunch, don't miss out! KLMS is a distribution site and the students no longer need to be with you to pick up meals. You do not have to qualify for free/reduced lunches to get the meals, the awesome Aramark people will simply ask how many meals you want. Also, you do not have to be an enrolled student in PfISD so if you know if a family in need, please send them the information about obtaining meal assistance with Pflugerville ISD.
Take care and stay safe,
Dina Schaefer, KLMS Principal
