Hello! Here are some quick announcements about what is happening at KLMS. We hope you are enjoying this somewhat cooler weather.
Clubs started today! Overall, the process worked well and I think the kids had a great time; however, we know that there were a few glitches. We tried a new registration system using Form Ranger with Google Forms to have students sign up for clubs. Please know that not everyone was able to get their first choice and we are working resolve issues for the few students with no club prior to looking at changes.
Lunch Seating changes. We assembled a group of randomly selected 7th and 8th grade students to get feedback on seating in lunch. This group developed a great idea that will go into effect starting Wednesday, October 4th. Students will choose their assigned seat at the beginning of the month and that will be their seat/table Monday-Friday for the month. Our intent is to change seats each month, but we may combine a few short months (for example, November and December or May and June). Students will have the last 10 minutes of each lunch period to go outside or regroup inside on the lower level. This information was first shared with students on Friday and is being reinforced through Catapult and announcements. Here is a short video explaining the process that was developed to have students select their seats (special thanks to the Broadcasting students who designed and created this video!).
Attendance Challenge! Each grade has been challenged to maintain 97.5% attendance each day! We have set up a play football field on the bulletin board in the hallway by the library. For round 1, each day that the grade has 97.5% attendance or better, the football is advanced 5 yards. When that grade reaches the end zone, they will earn a day to wear PJ pants and slippers to school.
We are hosting a Gifted and Talented Information Session at KLMS on October 19th from 6:30-7:30 room 302 with Ms. Kinney. All parents are invited to learn more about the identification process (for example, which students should be referred and how to refer a student for testing).
